Over the hills the West Saxons see the Great Heathen Army arrive
Young brother Alfred and his king Aethelred determined that none would survive
The fyrdmen rallied to the kinsmen’s cry, trading their plowshares for spears
Today they’ll make the Northmen pay for raiding their valleys for years

The Night of the Heathens
Soon they will clash on the field
The Night of the Heathens
The swords will be striking the shields

The brothers split their armies in twain, with Aethelred stopping to pray
The fyrdmen worried as they charged at the Norse, would Alfred be lost in the fray?
The Vikings didn’t know Alfred wasn’t alone, they closed in to capture his side
Then Aethelred and his well rested men emerged from the fog in full stride

The Englishmen came to surround
